New DD spell idea (in General)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] August 3 2006 2:04 PM EDT

Born from Seftons question about how CoC Spread damage as applied.

Chain Lightning.

CL is a cross between a single Target D (MM) and the spread effects of FB/CoC. CL attacks the first minion in line (like physical attacks) but continues to do reduced damage to any other alive minion.

Unlike FB/CoC, CL does not remain at the same strength as minion numbers decrease, if you don't face the full five minions, CL will not do damage to it's full potential.

For example, damage could be applied: 55% / 20% / 10% /10% / 5%

So facing only a single minion (either from the start of the battle, or after others have died) CL will only do 55% of it's total damage.

Thoughts/opinions? :)

Something similar to this has been suggested in the past.

I like it, but it should be balanced in a way where facing 5 minions would do more damage than %100 total. For example,

70% / 25% / 15% / 10% / 5%

Thus, you have two parts of the spectrum. More minions = super effective, less minions = not so effective.

You could really force people to rethink strats by having it hit in the center and spread out:

5 minion: 10%/25%/30%/25%/10%
4 minion: 20%/30%/30%/20%
3 minion: 20%/30%/20% (notice total effect is going down...)
2 minion: 30%/30%
1 minion: 30%

Not bad actually. But it can't be too powerful or whats the point in the rest? This seems dangerously closed to overpowered.

BootyGod August 3 2006 2:41 PM EDT

oh, but what if it targetted the minion with the highest HP? Let what Pixel say hold true, let it do more damage against multiple minions, but really hurt their walls. But at the same time make it so it can't auto kill a low HP mage in the middle or a Familiar.

Hits highest AC minion first, it's electricity after all...
The Base of the AC in question acts as a minus to AC + (conductivity)
and other minions get a residual effect depending on proximity (minion order) to the main minion hit.

I still think it should be front minion. Give a tactical decision as to where to place your high AC MgS wall. ;) Back for MM stoping or front for CL stopping. ;)

And it's a little more intersting than just a front hitting MM clone. ;)

As for damage, it needed do more than 100%. It just depends what that 100% is of. ;)

Imagine FB did 100 damage. CL could be set to do 120 (at equal level of course!). Facing a single minion, it would to 66 damage compared to FB 100 (ignoring the increased damage FB get's from hitting isngle target, if it still gets that), but would outpace FB damage if you faced three or more minions. Also, CL would do less damage the longer fights went on (s long as you're not fighting a single minion), as more minions died. :)

" it needed do"

>_<

It needn't do...

Shake Some Action August 3 2006 7:42 PM EDT

I already have my 400K ready to turn my FF to a LF (lightning familiar).

Though can it seek the minion with the highest strength? That'd be swell. :)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 3 2006 9:28 PM EDT

hmm ok GL, but it should still have an increased effect on folks wearing garbage cans and pots on there heads. So it hits the front minion like MM used to, and jumps from that minion to the minion with the highest AC (ignores AC entirely, it's electricity! Only MgS TSA should effect it) then the next highest on down to you 25 ac tat wearing chanter. If the front minion is the highest AC minion it should double hit that minion, then trickle down.

You could add another couple to the repetoire:

Hurricane:

Another one that targets the whole team; but is stronger against weaker minions. Stronger or heavily armoured take less damage.

Quake:

Targets whole team. Effect is twofold: damage - although not huge damage. Plus a dex drain as the ground becomes unsteady under the feet of the opponents.

You could also have a 'spell' for Tanks that sends a bag of custard to damage the opponent's minions - there could be three types - Plain useful against other tanks, Strawberry for hitting Walls and chocolate for Mages and enchanters :-).

It will also drain DX by 10% as it sets.

QBJohnnywas August 4 2006 8:08 AM EDT

You could call it Guardian Angel Delight......

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] August 4 2006 8:23 AM EDT

Butterscotch Angel Delight is the *only* flavour to have! :D

I'd say Guardian Angel Delight makes all minions stop fighting for a round, while they all tuck into it's Delightful goodness! ;)

QBBarzooMonkey August 4 2006 8:31 AM EDT

That's just not right - have you ever tried to clean custard out of all those little rings in a Mithril Chain Mail?

Okay, well, me either...

But it sure sounds nasty! "Squire! Come clean my Cuirass! I had to face that custard mage again!" :P
